cont. Wednesday, April 14:   Then, Roxana and I hit the road west to New Orleans.  We pulled off the highway
in Mobile, Alabama.  We drove through downtown Mobile along many streets, including Water Street.  Some of
the houses were very nice.  There is a large central square that is a green park.  From Mobile, we finished our last
leg to the Big Easy (N.O.).  I gave Roxana a quick overview.  We drove through the French Quarter, Canal
Street, the Garden District and Uptown, including Loyola U.,Tulane U., and Audubon Park.  We settled in at the
Hampton Inn and picked up some local Mexican food for dinner.

Thursday, April 15:  Roxana and I took a street car down St. Charles through the Garden District and the
Business District to the French Quarter.  We walked down Bourbon Street then headed to the Mississippi River.
We walked along the water until we found a place to sit down for lunch.  The food was typical heavy New
Orleans.  After lunch, we did a walking tour of the French Quarter.  We saw a beautiful court yard with fountains
behind a quaint hotel, Place D’Armes, along with many other historic buildings and sites.  After our self-guided
walking tour, we took a taxi back to our hotel.  Neither of us felt very well, due to the sub-par lunch.  We stayed
in this evening and had some food delivered.

Friday, April 16:  Roxana and I drove one last time through the French Quarter, where I took some photos.
Next, we drove through some of the backstreets of the Garden District.  Then we headed west.  We pulled off the
highway in Baton Rouge and drove through LSU’s campus, along the river, by the State Capital building, and
through the downtown area.  We got back on Rt. 10 west.  Western Louisiana’s geography is more similar to
Texas then central Louisiana.  There are vast flatlands, farms, cattle and oil refineries, as opposed to swamp/marsh
lands, bayous, the Mississippi River and lakes.
